Here we go to the ICU

Just received word that due to her nausea and uncontrolled pain, the thoracic and pain management teams have made a decision to move mom to the ICU. They are considering placing an epidural for better pain control and feel that she will receive closer supervision and care in the ICU....we agree. Her lab work is improving and she is resting better. Dan is comforted knowing she is receiving quality care. He has been so very worried about her, he loves her so much,we are so grateful he is part of her life...

  1. ICU is the best place for her. She will be watched more closely there. By California law a ICU nurse can only have 2 patients and a lot of the times they only are assigned one patient. In a tele unit he/she will have up to 4 patients and on a medical surgical floor the nurse can be assigned 8 patients.

Thanks so much for keeping us posted.
Give her and Dan my love.

  2. Thanks Juanette, you're SO right! We are all feeling better already, especially Dan. Seeing her in pain really tears him up inside. Soon we can go into her.

  4. Thanks for doing this. Please send her and my dad our love. We are praying for her and so glad the surgery went well. Did they do the epidural? It makes us so sad that she is in so much pain. Praying that they can get that under control for her sake.

  5. Pain management team decided against doing an epidural. She continues today on pain medications through her IV. There is some talk about trying to get her onto oral pain medications but right now she is so nauseated that she can't tolerate even small amounts of water....at least she is reluctant to even try...knowing that if she gets sick from it there will be massive pain associated from the large incisions in her chest and abdomen.
